Under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Saud bin Nayef ( Prince of the Eastern Region), Asharqia Chamber (represented by the Awqaf Committee) would organize Awqaf Forum 2018 on Sunday, April1, under the slogan " The Forum of Best Awaq Practices." It would review the most prominent international experiences in the endowment sector in order to discuss the most important achievements that have been fulfilled during their long journey in this field, and the most important lessons that they have learned.

The chairman of the chamber, Abdul Hakim bin Hamad al-Ammar al-Khalidi, paid a huge tribute to His Royal Highness, the prince of the region. He stressed that the patronage of His Highness supports the events that organized by the Chamber as a part of its social objectives based on its social responsibilities.

AlKhalidi explained that the forum would host large successful names that have huge accomplishment in the endowment sector. In fact, most of them became models and schools of their methodology and assets, which give lessons to the rest of the establishments in the private and public sectors.

He stressed that great efforts are being made by the Chamber (represented by the Committee of Awqaf) to hold the Forum and achieve its objectives of focusing on the practical side to promote the practices of local endowments, and increase their effectiveness and their positive impact through the presentation of the practices of global and local endowments. It also aims to draw the attention of businessmen and businesswomen to the importance of organizational endowments, as well as individual or institutional grants programs, and to provide many local and international endowment practices that show the great impact of endowments on business and family inheritance.

AlKhalidi said that the forum seeks to provide best practices in subjects that are interested in establishing successful and sustainable family endowments. Also, it would provide information about the management and investment of family endowments effectively, maximizing the social return on investment (SROI) through family endowments, as well as overcoming the potential challenges of the endowment sector.

AlKhalidi emphasized that international speakers who have long experience in the field of endowments, and experiences of high quality will be among the speakers in the sessions of the Forum. One of the most prominent speakers is David Russell, who began his legal work in 1974 and distributed between Australia, England and Wales. He has also served in the DIFC Courts, in New York as a Legal Counsel, in Singapore International Commercial Court, in New Zealand, as well as in Guinea. He was appointed as the Queen's adviser in 1986.

In addition, Dr. Rupert Graf Strachwitz would be among the speakers. He has been involved with nonprofit organizations for more than 30 years - as a volunteer, an employee, a board member, a consultant, a researcher, and a lecturer.

Also, Karim Abdul Ghaffar Plaza (Managing Director and member of BlackRock's Endowments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) would speak in the Forum too. BlackRock is a global platform designed to deliver solutions to customers by capitalizing on the investment of BlackRock's business experiences. It is also responsible for providing investment strategy as well as developing and maintaining relationships with family offices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Khalid Qama, a senior executive with over 25 years of experience in the Shari'ah-compliant investment sector (financial and real estate), is also speaking at the Forum. He has experience in managing and leading companies, and in management of civil and charitable endowments with the application of best management practices and standards of governance in various fields of management for companies and their boards and committees.

The forum comes at the right time to provide best practices in the establishment, management, sustainability, and investment of endowments by reviewing a number of live experiences in all countries of the world. This would provide valuable lessons and practices that emphasized the strength of this charitable sector and its positive impact on the local economy and social life.
